Industry and Social Taskforce

Industry taskforce

The Warnborough Foundation is looking to help Warnborough College TVET students gain real world experience.

  • We are forming various changeable teams in different areas such as marketing, design, idea generation, social taskforces, etc. There will be opportunities for students to come up with their own teams for their own purposes as well.
  • Students from different Warnborough learning centres are encouraged to apply to join.
  • Task forces will not comprise more than 2 students from the same learning centre in each group.
  • Team members may be in different geographic locations and time zones. They may speak different languages. The key element here is teamwork. In any organisation, people are expected to work together regardless of background, personality or ability.
  • Apart from vocational skills, team members will need to showcase their people and communication skills, humility, and willingness to help others.

Industry Task Force Teams

  • Warnborough will put out a call for a task force to be formed. This will include information on what area/discipline the task force will focus, the number of team members, and general rules.

  • Each team will be allocated a budget to carry out activities based on projects and strategies that have been approved.
  • Each member of the task force will work on at least two projects.
  • Each task force will be expected to brainstorm ideas, agree on the way forward, and delegate roles appropriately.
  • Each task force should appoint a team leader who will manage and quality assure the project.
  • There will be regular consultative meetings so team members can receive feedback, advice and support.
  • Team members will be required to support each other. At the same time, they will also rate each other’s participation and team working skills.
  • Participants who receive a peer rating of 7 or more are deemed to be successful in their task force roles.
  • Each successful participant will receive a reference letter.
  • Some participants may be chosen for a mentorship programme and/or an elite task force.

Projects

  • Projects will be proposed and/or chosen by Warnborough.
  • Projects will fixed-term, finite and with clear objectives and outcomes.
  • Projects may be related to Warnborough products or services, or to those of third parties.
  • Each project will come with a project brief.
  • Task forces should treat each project with the same level of professionalism expected of a commercial project.
  • If something isn’t clear within the brief, it is the responsibility of the team to clarify details as quickly as possible.
  • Each step of the project must be signed off by the ‘client’.
  • Each task force must create its own process workflow that is clear and easy-to-follow for every team member.
  • It is the responsibility of each team (and its manager) to establish clear communication channels, timeframes and deadlines with each client.

Disputes and Problems

  • Each task force is responsible for resolving its own issues. Such issues may include conflicts in ideas, implementation or even personalities.
  • If the situation is not resolvable, the whole task force may be disbanded, and the project may be given to another task force. In this case, none of the disbanded task force participants will receive a reference letter.
  • The Foundation is especially tough on this because this mirrors real life and no one team member is more important than the success of the project.
  • Should the work created by the task force be of questionable  or substandard quality, the team leader will be called upon to justify this. If a remedial plan cannot be carried out, or if the work remains substandard, the task force will be disbanded, and the project will be given to another task force.
  • If a project is not completed within (or appears to be going over) the allocated timeframe, an emergency meeting must be called to determine the reasons for this and the necessary steps to take to remedy this. The client must be kept informed at all times of the progress.
